While there's really not a 'typical' service at the RO4C,
you'll often see some of the same things at each service (in no particular order):
1. Tables -
While it throws some people off, we've gotten kinda attached to the idea of providing spaces to sit with other people, write, whatever;
we almost always always set up some round tables in the sanctuary, though we provide 'regular' rows on the sides (usually) for those more comfortable there.
2. Small Groups -
One of our intentional focuses at the RO4C is community, and how do you have community if you don't get to talk?
We typically have some time during the service where we break into groups of 4-10 and get to gab about some questions or discussion topics.
Anyone who wants to can participate (and we encourage that :) ), but as with everything we do at the RO4C, it's completely your choice to participate.
3. Music -
I remember going to college and filling out the 'roommate compatibility survey'. They only asked two questions: "Do you get up early or stay up late?" and "What are your music preferences?" We all go to church in the evening, so you can probably figure out our answer to the first, but the second is a bit more difficult. We do a lot of stuff, ranging from full-out rock to quiet and contemplative; it all depends on the week. We've done acoustic sets with just a guitar and piano, but we typically have electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, drums, keyboards. Don't really know what we sound like? Come on a Sunday night and check it out.4. A Message -
Suffice it to say somebody always talks; we all want to know more about this God thing and there's no better way.
Don't ever check out; we keep it real, relevant, & challenging.
5. Some Other Stuff -
Yeah, descriptive, right? We're always trying to think of something to do or watch or listen to or otherwise engage with to really drive the point home or get us thinking more deeply. This might be as simple as writing in a journal or watching a video clip or as intricate as multiple stations set up around the sanctuary to highlight the different ways we can connect to God. There's a quote here somewhere... something about chocolate, a box, and a simple man in a white suit...
